Abstract

My talk will focus on the need for the geoscience
community to help meet the challenges that face
humanity—not just challenges in the discovery and
extraction of energy and mineral resources, but also
geological issues that impact the safety and
environment of the communities we live in. Along the
Wasatch Front that means natural hazards mitigation,
water resources and clean air. In more densely
populated and less developed parts of the world it
means building capacity at the local level to reduce the
risk of natural disasters and increase resiliency.
Geologists have never been in greater demand!
